Making Your Nursing Drug Cards

Every nursing student is making use of drug cards to gain knowledge on the proper way to use and administer a drug that will be given to the patients They will also learn the right dosage for a certain patient and check if there are side effects occurring. Most of the cards can also be purchased to any stores available in the locality. However, it is still effective to make your own talent in making a your own note card. This way, you will obtain a better understanding about the drugs.

Before you get started, you have to learn some important information from your instructor and the data that should be included to your project. By creating nursing drug cards, basic information is usually applicable. However, some teachers would require to add other information. If your teacher explains the necessary requirements needed, jot down all important data that could be included with your project.

Next is to gather the necessary supplies or materials for your cards. You only need a stack of note cards. Your teacher will determine the right size and how much would you use. You need to plan and write it down by using a pencil, so you can still erase them if there are changes to correct details.

You may also need markers and highlighters. Better use several colors of markers so you can create a color coding to your cards. Each information may be colored with a specific color. You may also gather some textbooks and other professional sources that you need when making your own medical card to obtain a certain information.

You may also write all the generic or trade names for every drug on the note card. This information includes the correct pronunciations. However, it is not so important to color the information. You just need to use the color that you like or even use a black color. Flip each card and write all important details at the back.

You may write again the codes at the top portion of the cards. Write all the data or statistics in a neat, tidy and clean manner. You can also refer a certain requirements coming from your teacher. The most common details are the drug classifications, dosage, common side effects, therapeutic effects, drug actions and the nursing implications.

This side must be color coded. You may use any colors that highlight the information. For example, you color the word dosage with a pink color and so on. If you do not have a highlighter, then you can use any kind of markers to make an outline box in the sections.

You should also continue jotting down all the required medicines. If your teacher will not provide you the information you needed, then you can also conduct an assessment to the patients. This way, you will be able to learn the specific type of medicine for them. Of course, you will be guided by a professional physician when performing an assessment.

You should study all the details you have gathered. Much better if you will memorize the words. You can also check yourself if you are already knowledgeable about the data you have gathered. This way, you can measure your knowledge about your project.
