The Sickle Cell Disease Prevention Process

By Anita Ortega

Many individuals consider sickness to be a danger to life, even the ones who barely understands very little about the body. Therefore, it takes basic education to know that genetic difficulties together with viruses pose a greater risk since most of them have no known cure as yet. The only mode of regulation thus seems to be coming up with guidelines on how to control such situations. This includes such methods as sickle cell disease prevention.

Whenever there is an issue of particular importance to the general population, the best way of passing on a message is by conducting public awareness rallies. This helps make persons understand the nature of a situation and the need to address it quickly when it arises, along with good methods of doing so. Otherwise, panic and distress lead them to make rash and unnecessary decisions with dire consequences.

For most families, such problems occur across different generations with a certain probability. This makes it hard to predict, hence the need for parents to undergo counselling at appropriate times to try to receive direction and guidance from health professionals. Not only does this help in transmitting the disorder, but also helps find good combinations of genes to fight it.

Screening is important as far as early detection is a possibility. The prevalence rate in some parts of the world makes it necessary to conduct regular checks to ensure that some situations do not happen. This seems like the only way to discover this condition at an early stage for further treatment in the case of mature individuals.

For the children and those already experiencing life with such a burden on their shoulders, there are two methods of seeing them though. In the case of children, immunization serves the purpose well, with approved medication. To avoid greater side effects after trying out a certain drug, chromo prophylaxis seems like a good option for the entire period of treatment. Patients can thus get comfortable enough by accepting their situation.

Clinical care of special groups is also another step that must occur at one time or another. It involves taking into its fold the sick individuals and caring for them either free of charge, or providing test medication in some unique instances. The special groups include, women, children, and old people. Sometimes, all persons qualify if there is a limited number of patients.

It becomes inevitable that there is a change of lifestyles for the patients. This implies that they have to stop or reduce the workload in their lives and focus on treatment to some level without preoccupying themselves entirely with their fate. It helps maintain a good health and offers hope to the sick.

As much as most of these issues go into this process, not all successfully provide a good alternative. Nonetheless, they help relieve pain to patients as well as try to avoid cases of transferring the defective genes to another generation. More emphasis goes to research hence each discovery of a new case and medication helps improve chances of getting a long-term cure.
