Lakeland FL Chiropractic Office Helps Relieve Whiplash Pain

By Donna Beley

The pain resulting from a whiplash injury can be excruciating. The victim is unable to turn his head from right to left. The stiffness makes it hurt to stand up, sit down or lie down to sleep. A car accident may cause a person to seek the care of a Lakeland FL Chiropractor for pain alleviation that does not require prescription meds or surgery.

Most people have heard of the harm that can be done to an infant who is shaken roughly. The child's head is jerked backward and forward causing injury leading to death. In a rear end crash the occupants in the car suffer a similar injury.

Since the inception of legally required seat belt use, lives have been saved. No one wearing a seat belt can be thrown out in the event of an accident. But, there is no protection against having the head jerked backward and then forward during the crash.

It may not take effect immediately after the crash occurs. Sometimes hours will pass before the hurting starts. A cervical collar, worn to stabilize the head, is beneficial for a short time.

There are seven cervical vertebrae in the neck. As you may know, these are the uppermost bones in the spinal column. When one or more is misaligned, or out of place, it causes great hurt.

Prior to formulating a care plan, the chiropractor will do a thorough evaluation to assess the clients condition. The spine will be examined physically. Often an x-ray is required to pinpoint the exact location of the injury.

A series of questions helps to complete the exam. When the chiropractor is satisfied that the client will benefit from chiropractic care, a plan for that care can be arranged. Usually a series of manual adjustments to the neck are scheduled.

These adjustments ease the vertebrae back into their correct position, which relieves pressure on the spinal nerve roots. This will alleviate the hurt. With each consecutive adjustment the stiffness and pain will be lessened. The end result may be a return to your job and normal daily activities.
