How To Apply Self Tanning Products

By Haywood Hunter

There are many types of skin and some of them are brown, black, white, and red. Skins may be oily, scaly, or dry. For this reason, some people find it important to apply self tanning products to give skin extra nourishment. Most commercial brands have dihydroxyacetone as the main component responsible for causing the color change in skin. Dihydroxyacetone is normally shortened as DHA in most publications. Using commodities that have DHA eliminates the need to use sun beds or hours spent on the sun in order to tan skin.

Dihydroxyacetone comes in two major forms. The first form is the chemical version while the second one is the natural version. It is recommendable to use commodities with the natural form of DHA because it is derived from plants hence very harmless to the human body. The chemical version is manufactured in companies and may contain some chemicals that might not be very suitable for the body.

Human skins are composed of three layers, the outer, the middle, and the inner layer. Tanning occurs in the outer layer referred to as corneum. Corneum layer contains dead cells that have amino acids. DHA undergoes a chemical reaction with amino acid changing the color of corneum. The reaction is non-toxic, safe, and takes place externally. This renders DHA compound risk-free and advisable.

The color is also not permanent and product must be reapplied again after some time to maintain the tan. The time one should take to reapply the product is normally ten days. Some products combine DHA with another tanning substance called erythulose. The combination of the two causes a stronger and longer lasting effect than when any of them is used singly. When erythulose is used alone, it works like DHA only that the tan takes a longer time to form.

There are many reasons that make tanning commodities a good option for attaining radiant skins. Besides being harmless, they eliminate the need for having to spend hours sun bathing or enclosed in sun beds. There is the risk of skin cancer in many skin types if the body is exposed to radiation from the sun for long periods. This makes all options that involve UV light unsuitable. Use of sunless products eliminates the skin burns too.

Tanners rejuvenate skin cells making skin look young and without wrinkles. Unwrinkled skin appears young and beautiful. In contrast to this safe method is sun bathing which damages skin supporting tissues. Damage of supporting tissues causes aging of the skin as a whole. Sun beams also cause wrinkles to be formed on the body something most people try hard to avoid.

Tanning compounds also contain extra substances that keep the skin moisturized all day long. One should however know that commodities that contain moisturizers do not cause the skin to tan immediately. It may take several days of using the product for the tan to form. This is the best option for people who want there body to tan gradually not fast.

Another additive is the sun protection substance. Such additives provide protection against harmful rays from the sun. This is particularly important in places with very hot climates.
